Conditions looked good: mild, overcast, and stable. However, Sunday was a blank day on the pike front. We pretty much covered all the bases: dead baits, lures and flies, but apart from one follow to a lure we didn’t see a sign of any fish.
Just one of those things I suppose. We did make one move, but, as usual just before we had to pack up we wandered a few hundred yards further up the river and discovered that there were a lot more fish moving there. My bait was positioned a few feet beyond the weed bed in the photo below. The bottom starts to shelve down and it almost seems impossible that there weren’t any pike there.
There are only a couple of weeks left of the season to catch that elusive twenty pounder. I think we’ll have to wait ’til next season to be honest. However, in between times, there’s the trout season, and then the course season; plenty to keep us going.
